Troubleshooting guide

If your laser stops functioning, there are some basic steps to isolate what the issue might be.

Failures without error code indication

Ø No power output

1) Laser cavity

2) Trunk fiber

3) Handpiece mirror

4) Protective lens (laser head)

Ø Water or air does not spray

1) Patient water bottle is low or empty

2) Patient water filter may be clogged or dirty

3) Airline may be restricted or compressor not on

4) Possible connection or blockage in handpiece

Ø Laser will not turn on

1) May not be plugged in

2) Circuit breaker on back of laser may have been switched off

3) Power supply may be faulty

4) Key switch may be in off position

Ø Foot pedal does not activate laser

1) Foot control switch may be bad

2) Connection to the laser may be loose or unplugged

3) Wire coming from foot control may be worn or damaged

Ø No aiming beam out of handpiece

1) Trunk fiber may be broken or burned

2) Handpiece mirror may be dirty or burned

3) Tip in handpiece may be burned or worn

4) Protective lens may be dirty or burned

Failures with error code indication

Ø No air pressure.

1) Airline may not be plugged in

2) Compressor may be switched off

3) Airline may be kinked or damaged

4) Air pressure sensor inside laser may be bad or blocked

Ø Feedback laser calibration required

1) Laser head may be out of factory specification

2) Power supply may be bad or not putting correct voltage out

3) Power may be too low to register

Ø No foot switch detected

1) Foot control switch may be bad

2) Connection to the laser may be loose or unplugged

3) Wire coming from foot control may be worn or damaged

Ø Water flow failure

1) Patient water bottle is low or empty

2) Patient water filter may be clogged or dirty

3) Airline may be restricted or compressor not on

4) Possible connection or blockage in handpiece

Ø Reservoir failure

1) Internal cooling fluid may be low or out

2) Internal deionizing filter may be dirty or clogged

3) Pump may be bad or volume not high enough

4) Water flow sensor may be bad or detect flow failure

Ø Bottle sensor failure

1) Patient water bottle may be low or empty

2) Bottle may not be connected properly

3) Bottle sensor beam may need to be adjusted or replaced

4) Bottle seal may be leaking or loose

Basic laser maintenance is a very important aspect of keeping your laser reliable and working efficiently. Most of the issues, failures, and error codes can be avoided by performing semiannual or annual maintenance and upgrades. Some laser owners are not fully aware of internal cooling fluid, filters, protective lenses, and voltage adjustments that need to be replaced and adjusted annually.
